This intriguing pattern on a C15 minbar in Cairo was a delight to recreate from dot to finish. It was utterly magic how hidden circles and vesica shapes revealed themselves while tessellating. The analysis and layout was taught by Richard Henry on the Cairo study trip (2016). My initial palette plan involved woad, indigo, cerulean and touches of gold, but after the first painting session the pattern decided it preferred to become a misty ocean adrift with diaphanous petals in pinks, bluey-greens and greeny-blues.
